I have been turning wood for ten years now. I consider woodturning to be unique among woodworking techniques, since
measuring, accuracy, and straight lines are utterly irrelevant. It's all a matter of creativity, and the ability to
"see" the form in your mind's eye. I have found few things as artistically satisfying as creating beauty out of an ugly
chunk of wood.
Michelangelo said that his marble statues were already inside the raw slab of rock before he even began; all
he had to do was remove the unwanted pieces to reveal it. I can relate!
